NWRFL: Last Four Known

By Darrion Abongwa

The boys have been separated from the men in this years Northwest Regional Football League (NWRFL) following the the completion of the quarter finals on Friday. Hiltop Strikers, Bang Bullet, Tubah FC and Bafmeng United are the last teams standing.

Tubah United pulled the greatest shock of the quarter finals when they eliminated pre-tournament favourite, Rainbow FC  1-0 . Both side failed to scored in the return leg played at GS Nibung this afternoon meaning the lone goal conceded in the away leg in Bambili was enough to show Rainbow FC the way out.

Still in Nibung, Bafmeng United and Rockland pulled a one-all tie but Bafmeng United came into the match with a slime 2-1 victory and move through to the last four on a 3-2 aggregate score.

Last year's champions Hilltop Strikers choose the hard way to sail through. Hilltop lost 2-1 to SIMAF FA of Mbengwi, an identical score Hilltop recorded over their opponents in the away leg. Forced to penalty shoot outs, Hilltop triumphed 5-4 to cement a semi final spot.

Before the match, All Stars FC forced Bang Bullets to a one-all tie but marched out 6-3 on aggregate.

Semi final matches comes up Sunday as the regional league scrambles to catch up with the upcoming National playoffs to qualify teams to the Elite Two as from July 15.

Hilltop Strikers square up to Bang Bullets and Bafmeng United and Tubah FC will flex muscles for the two tickets into the finals. All semi final matches willbe played at the Bambili University Stadium.
