NW Cup of Cameroon Eliminatory: Rainbow shows class against 2000 champions

A game with stakes to represent the North West region at the 32 finals of the cup of Cameroon saw Rainbow triumph at Nibung against the experience and one-time winner of the cup of Cameroon, Kumbo Strikers.

 

The first quarter of the game saw both sides on the same level with no shot on target though with several chances created by Gildas Wamaka on the right wing for Rainbow FC.  

 

The deadlock was finally broken at the 18th minute with Bucholi Clovis finishing beautifully from a rebound in the box to open the scores for Rainbow FC.

 

With the lead, Rainbow FC took charge of the tempo of the game creating further chances giving birth to a foul on Bucholi with the central referee calling for a penalty at the 23rd minute.  

 

Rainbow FC’s  forward Tayem Junior with all hopes on his shoulders converted calmly from the spot after sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to double the lead.  

 

Bucholi once again at the 37th minute proved his worth as his brace tripled the lead for Rainbow FC with one time Cameroon cup, Champions Kumbo Strikers presenting a shadow of their history.  

 

A return from break saw Kumbo Strikers a stronger than during the first half with a show of hunger and thirst.  

Their agility saw Jumbo Strikers culled 8 back one from the spot courtesy of Bongam Verla after Rainbow conceded a foul in the box leaving the game at 3-1 in the 57th minute.   Coach Mbitakang of Rainbow FC immediately sorted to repair the loopholes making 3 substitutions at once;   Leonard in for Clinton Bobo, Akom in for Bucholi the brace man and Gilberto in for Azeh.  

 

A second half characterized with several fouls and tensions saw Kumbo Strikers drawn down to 10men as got red carded after a terrible foul on Akom to stop a dangerous counter.  

 

With the referee Ngwa Cyrille’s final whistle, Rainbow FC are through to the next round of the Cup of Cameroon preliminaries with Bucholi Clovert dubbed man of the match.
