Elite one: Cotonsport wins 18th league title

By Darrion Abongwa

Cotonsport FC of Garoua has beaten Canon of Yaounde 2-0, to claim their 18th Elite one title.

Goals in either halves from Abdouraman Daman Bouba and Patient Wassou Gouegoue, were enough to secure victory for Cotonsport on Sunday afternoon at the Douala Reunification stadium.

Canon had a bright start to the encounter, with goalkeeper Gadin Allambatnan of Cotonsport making important saves to deny the Kpa-kum in the opening quarter of the game.

Cotonsport soon took command of the game, and went in front at the 24th minute, when Abdouraman Daman Bouba benefited from a goalkeeping error from Jourdan Mbaynaissem, to hit the back of the net.

Canon struggled to get back into the game, and even the introduction of Ngong Neville in the place of Tombi Alemi, could not provide the spark they badly needed.

Coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck of cotonsport, brought in Hassana Abo, Philippe Arthur Banen and Jean Paul Komo, as Cotonsport enjoyed much of the ball in the second half.

Patient Wassou hit the final hammer on the nail, when he splash in a fine finish from a fine Arthur Banen delivery. A comfortable 2-0 win which means Cotonsport secures their 18th league title and a third in a row.

For Canon, their 21-years wait for a league title continues.
