Elite 1 Playoffs: Bamboutos Thrash Gazelle to keep title hopes alive

By Darrion Abongwa

Bamboutos FC of Mbouda has beaten Gazelle FA of Garoua 4-1, in one of the last two games of the title playoffs of the 2023 Elite one championship.

In a game played on Sunday afternoon at the Douala Reunification stadium, goals from Raphael Marc Yapende, Franck Atsama, Alex Benjamin Louke and Nasser Njoya, were enough to secure the Mangwa Boys a comfortable win.

It was the third time the two sides were meeting this season, after they had previously met twice in pool B games during the regular season. Gazelle had won one and drew one of their previous two meetings with the Mangwa Boys, but were completely outsmarted by Yves Clement Arroga's men.

Central African Republic's international defender Raphael Marc Yapende, fired Bamboutos in front just after the half an hour mark. Center Back Franck Atsama, made Gazelle pay for Marcelin Mbahbi's error when he failed to deal properly with Nasser Njoya's corner kick.

Arroga brought in Alex Benjamin Louke for Serge Rodrigue Koupit shortly before half-time and it was Louke who tapped in Bamboutos' third goal just few minutes into the second half. Nasser Njoya made it 4-0 for Bamboutos before ceding his place to Franklin Fotso, while Brandon Djoufack, Saleh Danjouma, and Junior Kemajou, came in for Yapende, Maurice Bill Alex Diboto and Franck Atsama respectively.

Sali Oumarou pulled one back for Gazelle late in the game, when he curled in a beautiful free kick beyond goalkeeper Patrick Lionel Kibyen, but it was not enough to inspire a comeback for Robert Leona's side. with the win.

Bamboutos moves up to six points on the playoffs rankings, and can still win the league, in case Canon beats Cotonsport in the second game on Sunday evening.
