FEGAFOOT To Appeal against CAF Decision Disqualifying U23 Selection

By Bernice Nchang

The Gabonese Football Federation – FEGAFOOT has announced it will be appealing against the CAF Disciplinary Commission decision, suspending the participation of the U23 side in the forth coming African Nations Cup in that category.

CAF had announced on Tuesday  (May 16) that they have found Gabon guilty of administrative errors in registering the data of the player Floriss Njave who featured in the two legged qualifier tie against Cameroon in March. The Cameroon FA, FECAFOOT  had launched a complaint against Gabon for age fraud. They accused the Gabonese of changing his age so that he would be eligible to play in the tie.

CAF Disciplinary commission suspended Gabon in favour of Cameroon and went further to suspend the Gabonese for the next edition of the U23 AFCON. In a Press Communiqué released on May 17, FEGAFOOT said it would appeal against the decision of CAF and asked for a stay in the execution of the CAF decision until the appeal is heard.

The U23 AFCON will be played in Morocco from June 24th to July 8, 2023. This will be Cameroon’s second participation after 2019 hosted by Egypt if the suspension is upheld. Gabon was vying for it third participation in four edition of the tournament. Gabon won the first edition hosted by Morocco.
