Elite One Playoffs: Daman Bouba’s strike takes cotonsport closer to 18th League title

By Darrion Abongwa

Cotonsport FC of Garoua, has beaten Bamboutos FC of Mbouda 1-0, to edge closer to their 18th Cameroon league title. Abdouraman Daman Bouba's thunderbolt in the second half, made the difference in a highly entertaining encounter at the Reunification stadium in Douala.

Both winners in their opening games last week, the Cotonites and the Mangwa Boys served the crowd with top notch football.

Though Bamboutos monopolized much of the ball in the first half, Che Malone and his cotonsport teammates stayed solid at the back and threatened through counter attacks.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Munya pulled a stunning save to deny Daman Late into the first half, as both sides returned to the change rooms on a parity.

Patient Wassou Gouegoue failed to put cotonsport in front from close range, but came back minutes later to set up Daman Bouba, who fired pass goalkeeper Benjamin Munya, as cotonsport took the lead at the 63rd minute.

Gadin Allambatnan at goal for Cotonsport, denied Maurice Bill Alex Diboto, before dealing well with Benjamin Bieleu's free kick.

Substitute Philippe Arthur Banen, came closed to increasing tally for Cotonsport, but was denied by the post after a great work down the right flank by Aziz Bassane.

Late pressure from Bamboutos yielded no fruits, as cotonsport makes two wins in two games. The defending champions will now need just a draw in their last game against Canon on Sunday, to claim what will be their 18th League title.

Bamboutos FC on their part, will face Gazelle FA of Garoua in the other game on Sunday.
