Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda recorded a precious 2-1 away victory on Saturday against fellow relegation threatened Yafoot of Yaounde to increase their Elite One survival chances.
Forward, Meal Dindjeke scored two quick goals within four minutes (67 and 71 min) to turn the tie around after Yafoot had taken the lead at the 24th minute of the match. Despite a nervy last 15 minutes, the yellow submarine snatched the two points and ensured that their elite one survival chances remain in their hands.
The result takes Yosa to 24 points after 19 matches played, five away from safety and two above AS Fortuna on 22 points in the relegation playoff spot. Yosa’s victory over Yafoot ensures that Yafoot remains in the drop zone and with an uphill task to surmount in their remaining two games of the league.
Though Yong Sport Academy has played a match more, chances are that a draw in their final league match against Les Astres (24 points) would be enough to avoid direct relegation. While all the teams below Yosa still have two matches more to play, Fauve Azure, classified 8th on 23 points next takes on Union of Douala (5th on 26 points) and Fovu Baham (3rd on 28 points), and AS Fortuna 9th on 22 points will need to fight against the playoff with matches against already relegated Dragon FC and Group B leaders Bamboutous FC. Yafoot of Yaounde could still save their season but will need maximum points against Fovu of Baham and Dragon of Yaounde in their remaining matches and hope results elsewhere go in their Favour.
