MTN Elite One:  PWD Vs Cannon Show down

By Abongwa Darrion

The MTN Municipal Arena in Mbouda will be the theatre of the Match Day 21 action between PWD of Bamenda and Conon Sportif of Yaounde as from 15:30 local time. Two historic teams that have rival each other eternally come into the match with two opposing ambitions. Canon are classified 2nd in the pool on 31 points and PWD of Bamenda 7th on 21 points, three above the relegation spot occupied by Renaissance and Avion FC and just one point above Djiko in the playoff spot.

First the Abakwa Boys are fighting to maintain their elite one Status while Le Mekok Megonda will hope a win will secure a place in the championship playoff.  Both sides failed to score in the reverse fixture and are coming into this game with wins in their last outings.

This will be Coach Bep Constantine’s 5th match in-charge of the Abakwa Boys and he is yet to lose a match, winning two and drawing two.  Bep Constantin has completely turn the wheels of the club, ensuring PWD Bamenda has its destiny in its hands. A win against Canon could be all that would be needed to save the Abakwa Boys' Season.

For Canon Sportif, the path to an elusive championship has never been closer than now. Six points from their remaining three matches will be all they need to hold on to the second spot and guarantee them a playoff.  But that will mean beating PWD of Bamenda.

The last time Canon lost an elite one match was against Colombe FC on December 31, 2022. Canon has played 7 matches in the elite one this calendar year winning five and drawing two. They come into Sunday’s clash in red hot form. Canon’s Last victim was Coton Sport who suffered a 1-0 defeat in Yaounde.

But PWD presents a completely different ball game here. In their last five meetings, PWD has won 2, drawn 2 and lost one. The last time PWD lost to Canon was on the 5th of February 2020, in a 0-2 defeat, while PWD last won against Canon, 2-1 on October 10, 2019. Giving the blistering speed the Abakwa Boys used to force Avion to an emergency landing in Mbouda last weekend (4-0) today’s match carries all the indication of a great classic. (match to be streamed live on PWD Faceboo page as from 3:30 pm)
