CHAN 2023: Three Cameroonian referees appointed

Three Cameroonian referees have been appointed by the Confederation for African Football CAF, to officiate matches for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship CHAN 2022.

Ngwa Blaise Yuven, Menye Mpele Rodrigue and Atezambong Fomo Carine were named amongst the full list of match officials for the competition to serve as center and assistant referees, including 19 referees, 21 assistant referees and 12 video assistant referees representing 32 of CAF's Member Associations. 

All names being household names in Cameroon football and in the African continent will be expected to display the same class and ensure transparency during the competition.

Atezambong Fomo Carine will be an assistant referee and joins Vincentia E. Amedone From Togo and Diane Chikotesha from Zambia who make up the three female referees appointed.

Reacting to the appointment, CAF Head of Referring, Désiré Noumandiez Doué said the appointment is a mixture of Young and old “we have combined experience with youth - we have a number of up-coming and promising referees. CHAN is a global competition and a great platform for our match officials. As we start a new World Cup cycle, this gives us an opportunity to build. We have AFCON - both men and women in 2024 - and a number of competitions under this cycle. I'm particularly pleased to see more women joining the bigger group,"

The competition will run from January 13 to February 4, 2023 in Algeria. Four cities will be used; Algiers, Constantine, Oran and Annaba. Host country Algeria will face 2014 winners Libya in a North African derby on 13 January 2023 at 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT) at the majestic Stade de Baraki in the Algerian capital Algiers. 

The Intermediate Lions of Cameroon will play against Congo and Niger in group E.
